Skoula Keys Win!
Last night the Penguins defeated the Atlanta Thrashers 3-2 to snap a four game road losing streak. Martin Skoula chipped in two goals on the night and Evgeni Malkin added a third to help secure the win. This was Skoula’s first two game as a member of the Penguins. Martin Skoula has done a perfect job filling in for injured defensemen while logging a lot of minutes and scoring three goals.
The Penguins controlled most of the game with Fleury playing spectacular in net making many key saves. Johan Hedberg was also stellar for the Thrashers by just keeping them in the game. He stopped Max Talbot on a penalty shot in the second period and robbing many other scoring chances.
Brooks Orpik made his return to the lineup after missing four games and he made his presence known early and often by laying out Thrashers all night.
Game turned physical in the second half with Deryk Engelland fighting Evander Kane in the second and Matt Cooke squaring off against Ilya Kovulchuck. Kovulchuck was thrown out of the game for instigating his fight with Cooke.
The Pens will wrap up their three game road trip on Monday night when they visit the Florida Panthers.
