Bing City!
The Pens closed out a three game road trip with yet another third period come from behind, overtime win against the Florida Panthers by a score of 3-2. This is the second time this year the Panthers have let a third period lead slip away to the Pens. This is also the second time that Sidney Crosby was the hero scoring the game winning goal.
Thomas Vokoun once again made 40 plus saves for the Panthers while the offense struggled to get much past Fleury. Nathan Horton and Keith Ballard scored the Panthers’ goals.
The Panthers did everything they could to keep the Pens from winning this game but it just wasn’t enough on this night. Five minutes into the third period the Pens finally go on the board when a weird bouncing puck found its way over the shoulder of Vokoun and into the net. Pascal Dupuis was given credit for the goal. Then, with just over two minutes remaining in the game the Penguins had a shift where they controlled the puck in the Panthers’ zone for nearly two minutes. That shift ended when Evgeni Malkin found Maike Rupp in frint of the net to tie the game at two.
In overtime, Nathan Horton took a double minor for high sticking that put the Pens on the powerplay for the rest of the overtime period. They didn’t use that whole time though. Evgeni Malkin ripped a shot from the slot and Sidney Crosby was there to bury the rebound and give the Pens the 3-2 victory.
That is the Pens fourth straight game with a powerplay goal.
The Pens will now return home on Wednesday night when they host the Montreal Canadiens at 7:30
GO PENS!!!!
